Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, Honorable union health minister for India recently made yet another announcement. This is essentially a proposal for mndatory one year rural term for all the Indian doctors who are fresh graduates.
The manadatory rural term is a must and is on top of the one year internship after the medical school in india.
Mr Azad also suggested that Indian medical course is short and this extra one year will help in producing well skilled and experienced doctors.
The one year rural term will certainly boost the rural health care. But the biggest hurdle for this scheme would be the allocation of necessary supervision for the yound graduates while they are posted in these rural areas.
I hope the Medical council of India would address this issue of supervison efficiently and help these young doctors avail necessary training in the rural areas during their positings.
