The recent spate of terror strikes in Mumbai on 26th November, 2008 which lasted for nearly 60 hours duration caused the loss of up to 200 very valuable human lives and also left a large amount of visible damage in many parts of this vibrant city.
Indian authorities have managed to successfully stop the devastation from reaching uncontrolled proportions and also prevented further losses in human life with the help of its military forces.
The entire nation stepped forward as one to offer their condolences to the many valuable human souls lost during the gruelling hours of horrendous extremism in Mumbai and also expressed their unconditional gratitude to the Indian armed forces and various Mumbai security personnel who risked their lives while protecting the others.
Mumbai and its residents have still not recovered from the immediate shock effects left by these savage attacks conducted by the misguided youth and it will certainly take a lot more time before they recover completely from the full-on assault on the security of the commercial capital of India.
These meaningless attacks not only brought the city and its people’s lives to a stand still for many days but also throttled down the life out of the administration in all sectors of human functioning in this economic giant.
What we are left with to witness out of this carnage is only a miniscule amount of the actual intended damage and we may not be able to immediately see is the long term setback to the fast paced growth of Mumbai with the rest of India in its immediate footsteps.
The political and social administration authorities in Mumbai and also in New Delhi have been busily engrossed in blaming each other and changing leaders in top positions in order to address the public anger and resentment.
All the valuable time lost as well as the vast human resources wasted during the last few days following the devastating attacks are undoubtedly irreplenishible. India is now faced with the huge task of revamping its security strategy. It is forced to shift its focus and entire energy into self defense and counter terrorism measures.
The daily life in Mumbai is slowly tilting back to normalcy but the fear that grappled the whole country have certainly affected the confidence in the minds of the many young Indians who suddenly lost the trust in their leaders in the middle of this meaningless destruction.
What may not be visible immediately will gradually manifest itself in the form of positive rebuilding process in the minds of these many young Indians who are suddenly woken up with a jolt when their home turf was used as a firing ground and many of their loved ones were held hostage by few young men whose minds have been poisoned with horrific hatred towards their countrymen.
India and its path of progress in all sectors of life will definitely be halted by these attacks but only for a minute fraction of a second so that the mighty nation gets a chance to look at the bleeding wounds it sustained while facing these extremist actions.
The great nation started its journey forward again in the path of inclusive progress and national prosperity but just changed its gears only to show it to the rest of the world and especially to all its detractors that nothing can stop India and its people in reaching the destined glory as one of the most powerful nations on this earth.
